Stop Pro-Life Hate Speech

Reproaction’s new digital ad campaign calls out the so-called pro-life movement for inciting followers to violence and murder. The ads feature direct quotes of pro-life movement leaders whose use of hateful rhetoric appears to promote and condone anti-abortion violence. The campaign is in response not just to the November 27, 2015, shooting at a Planned Parenthood health center in Colorado Springs and recent inflammatory speech perpetuated by pro-life leaders and lawmakers after the release of deceptive and highly edited videos targeting Planned Parenthood, but also to the pro-life movement’s deep, decades-long history of using lies, toxic rhetoric, and tolerance of violence to further its aims of ending access to legal abortion. Check out all of Reproaction’s online ads below.

Check out our Act and Learn webinar: Stop Anti-Abortion Terrorism and Harassment. We dive deep into the role incendiary anti-abortion rhetoric plays in fueling violence, and hear from folks on the front lines who encounter outrageous and indefensible harassment every day. Most importantly, we talk about what we can do right now to demand the pro-life movement stop the hate speech, stop lying about reproductive health care providers, and call upon the new special committee in Congress to investigate anti-abortion terrorism.

Guest panelists include:

  • Dr. Cheryl Chastine, Chicago-based family physician and abortion provider
  • duVergne Gaines, Director of National Clinic Access Project at Feminist Majority Foundation Board of Directors at Global Girl Media

A Recap of the 11/30 Stop Anti-Abortion Terrorism Vigil

On November 30, Reproaction held a vigil at the United States Supreme Court. Over 100 people gathered to remember the three people murdered and nine others wounded when a gunman targeted a Planned Parenthood health center in Colorado Springs, and to honor all victims and survivors of anti-abortion harassment, violence, and terrorism. We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend the vigil. Special thanks to NARAL Pro-Choice America for partnership, and our speakers Rep. Schakowsky (D-IL), Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IN), Mitchell Stile from NARAL, and Kersha Deibel-Trotter from PPFA.

1 in 3 women will have abortions, and they are doing nothing wrong.

Abortion is basic healthcare and a basic right.

Women need to be able to control whether and when to have children in order to have dignity and be equal, period.

Friday, a gunman murdered three people and wounded nine others inside a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs.

Four Planned Parenthoods have experienced arson attacks in the past four months, all after the release of deceitful and deceptive sting videos that demonize abortion providers and encourage violence.

According to the Feminist Majority Foundation, “51.9% of abortion clinics experience Operation Rescue like tactics including pamphlets targeting doctors and staff, WANTED flyers/posters, personal information posted on internet, posting pictures of staff on internet, demonstrations at doctors’ and staff homes, stalking of doctors and staff.”

Every day and all over this country, doctors, clinic staff, patients, and clinic escorts wade through harassment and worse.

Incendiary speech encourages terrorism, violence, and harassment. While the gunman was still shooting Friday, conservative commentator Erick Erickson tweeted (and later deleted): “Left upset the only people dying at Planned Parenthood are babies.” As the gunman was still shooting Rep. Adam Kinziger (R-IL) criticized Planned Parenthood live on CNN; actually, there are not two sides to a mass shooting.

As Media Matters has documented, numerous right-wing figures have compared abortion providers to Nazis. It’s common to hear abortion providers, people who have abortions, and pro-choice advocates called murderers.

And Congress has established a special committee to investigate abortion, as the states continue to restrict access to abortion and force abortion clinics to close.

1 in 3 women will have abortions, and they are doing nothing wrong. Abortion is basic healthcare and a basic right, period. Women need to be able to control whether and when to have children in order to have dignity and be equal, period.

Enough is enough. Let’s demand an end to abortion terrorism and harassment.

Reproaction Act and Learn Webinar 11/18: How to Talk About Abortion and Survive the Holidays

Are you dreading the holiday season because you know your aunt is going to bring up “those hearings” and you aren’t sure how to respond?

Have you ever left a holiday gathering last year kicking yourself for not responding  when someone said they are pro-choice but oppose people using abortion as birth control?

How we talk about abortion and attacks on access to abortion play crucial roles in our ability to shift from playing defense to actually winning. With honesty and a little humor, we can all enjoy the holidays without having to bite our tongue.  Check out our Act and Learn Webinar:  How to Talk About Abortion and Survive the Holidays from Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

We’d like to thank our guest panelist Steph Herold, Managing Director and Co-Founder of The Sea Change Program.

We hope you enjoy a safe, joyful, and empowered holiday season! Enjoy the webinar below.
