A Year of Standing With Standing Rock: Checking In With Native and Two-Spirit Activists

A year ago, forced evacuations of the Oceti Sakowin Camp at Standing Rock began, ending in late February with the complete destruction of camp. After violent backlash to protests left many water protectors injured and others facing arrest and incarceration, the Army Corps of Engineers halted progress on the pipeline on December 6, only to be reinstated by Trump during his first few days in office.

For Native American Heritage Month, we’re gathering activists, educators, and healthcare providers to discuss how women and queer people are leading the way in Indigenous resistance including and beyond #NoDAPL.

This webinar will highlight the alarming rates of violence against Native women, organizing around Two-Spirit identity and queerness, and access to health care in indigenous communities.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Charon Asetoyer, one of the founders of the Native American Community Board (NACB) and the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center (NAWHERC)
  • Jen Deerinwater, Executive Director of Crushing Colonialism, writer, and organizer
  • Tammi Kromenaker, Clinic Director of Red River Women’s Clinic
