Under the direction of Dr. Randall Williams, Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has become an instrument of abuse that sought to humiliate and assault women seeking abortions. Dr. Williams is a disgrace, and he must resign.
According to Dr. Colleen McNicholas, a physician at Missouri’s only abortion clinic, more than 100 patients endured medically unnecessary invasive pelvic exams after the provider reluctantly began complying with the DHSS rule in May. [1] On June 22, Dr. Williams told reporters that DHSS would issue an emergency rule allowing pelvic exams closer to the time of the abortion if the clinic believes that it is best for the patient. DHSS has not removed the mandate for medically unnecessary invasive pelvic exams prior to medication abortion in Missouri.
Partially reversing course in response to public outrage does not address the fact that Williams’ directive was a grotesque abuse of power.
And now Williams has testified at a state hearing that he kept a spreadsheet to track the menstrual periods of women who visited Planned Parenthood.[2]
Dr. Randall W. Williams is a disgrace. Reproaction demands the immediate resignation of Dr. Williams from Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services.
