Reproaction Demands Accountability Outside Values Voter Summit

| Reproaction

By: Erin Matson

The pro-life movement is morally bankrupt, and their stated ‘values’ are a pile of baloney.

Case in point? Recently Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) became yet another “pro-life” congressman revealed to have pressured a woman he was having an affair with to have an abortion. In this hypocrisy, he joins Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN), who did the same thing to multiple women, including his ex-wife.

At Reproaction, we believe everyone has deserves access to abortion and the full range of parenting options without the interference of lawmakers. That means both not thinking only certain women deserve access to abortion and voting the right away for everyone else, and not pressuring women to have abortions for the sake of a hypocritical lawmaker’s convenience.

That’s why we recently protested the Values Voter Summit – a convening organized by the Family Research Council and attended by the extreme right wing – to call out the B.S.

In addition to greeting attendees on their way in the door to see Donald Trump speak with our banner “ABORTION: Not just for your mistress!” we had a truck circle the convention displaying the real headlines of multiple publicly anti-abortion congressmen privately pressuring their mistresses to have abortion for the sake of their own political careers.

Believe me, the right wing is noticing calls for accountability and they know they are vulnerable. Their moral rot is not just their hypocrisy. It’s also that they say they’re pro-woman and stand behind a president who bragged about sexual assault; and that they say they’re pro-children and are blocking Medicaid expansion and taking away access to health care. It’s gross, and we’ll keep calling it out until we win.
