In many states, LGBTQ people can be fired from their jobs, denied housing, or refused basic services simply for being who they are. Yet, conservatives would have people believe that those who wish to discriminate are the ones in need of additional non-discrimination protections and they are actively organizing to accomplish that goal. Conservatives cloak these proposals to protect the right to discriminate in the language of religious freedom, but do not be fooled. Religious exemptions and so-called religious liberty laws are a creeping menace aimed to protect individuals, companies, and schools that discriminate against people.
