Dear Mr. Cusack,
We are appalled and outraged by the statement you posted on Twitter during the Democratic debate on February 4, 2016. Specifically, you wrote “When Hillary Clinton raises her voice, she loses.” That commentary is wrong, insulting, and belittling.
As co-directors of Reproaction, we believe that there is no place for sexist rhetoric in political commentary. Your disparaging post reinforced insulting and damaging stereotypes about women, and was a disgraceful comment for the Editor in Chief of The Hill newspaper to make in any forum.
Reproaction recently ran a series of digital ads on The Hill, but we cannot continue to advertise in a publication where the Editor in Chief freely voices rhetoric that demeans and insults women. This has nothing to do with preference for a candidate; Reproaction takes no position on candidates running for public office. This is about right and wrong. We call on you to publicly apologize for your comment and recommit to the basic standards of integrity befitting political publications like The Hill.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson and Pamela Merritt
