Press Release

#DearDebbie, Young Women are Leading the Fight for Reproductive Justice.

| Reproaction

It’s happening again.

One of our ‘allies’ is blaming young women for the crisis in access to abortion. This time it’s Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who also chairs the D.N.C. Here’s what she just told The New York Times:

“Here’s what I see: a complacency among the generation of young women whose entire lives have been lived after Roe v. Wade was decided.” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz – The New York Times – January 6, 2016

It’s not true. Young people are driving the abortion access, reproductive justice, and social justice movements forward. Tell Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to stop blaming young women for the abortion access crisis.

Grassroots abortion funds around the country are filled with young volunteers – women and men – who work around the clock to help people get the care they need.

And the inspiring and vital #BlackLivesMatter activism of the past year has been largely led by young women of color – how could these young women be called complacent?

In the past, pro-choice movement leaders, major media outlets, and other elected officials have blamed young women for being apathetic about abortion. We’ve seen this rodeo too many times and it’s time to stop this bull once and for all.

Tell Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to stop blaming young women for the abortion access crisis.

Enough is enough.
