In New Video, Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA) Fails to Denounce Women Going to Jail for Abortion
Washington, D.C. – Today, Reproaction released new video footage showing Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA) failing to denounce women going to jail for self-managed abortion. Further, he barely acknowledged the existence of women during more than 10 rounds of questioning.
In response, Reproaction co-founder and co-director Erin Matson released the following statement:
The logical consequence of abortion bans is sending women and people who can become pregnant to jail, and Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA) and his anti-abortion colleagues couldn’t be more callous about it. Two women in the Commonwealth of Virginia have faced prosecution in recent years over miscarriage as well as self-managed abortion. Our video shows clearly that women are barely an afterthought in Congressman Wittman’s anti-abortion crusade. This is personal to me as a Virginian raising my daughter here. Enough.
