“It’s Never Been About Protecting Life”
Statement from Reproaction Co-Founder, President, and CEO Erin Matson
Today anti-abortion leaders and organizations are gathering to descend on Washington DC for the annual March for ‘Life.’ Whatever their signs and banners may proclaim, their agenda not about life, but about control.
Since last year’s march:
- It’s become clear that abortion bans have claimed the lives of women from Texas to Georgia who were unable to get the health care they needed when facing life-threatening pregnancy complications.
- Anti-abortion leaders have called for an end to IVF treatments, which has allowed millions of people to start or grow their families.
- Anti-abortion lawmakers have gone mask-off with their opposition to birth control, failing to protect it at both the federal and state levels—while trying to gaslight us into believing that birth control isn’t in danger.
- Multiple ‘pro-life’ leaders have argued that people who have abortions should be charged with murder, some even advocating for the death penalty.
Does any of that sound life-affirming?
The anti-abortion leaders and organizations aren’t marching for life; they’re marching for control. They’re marching to preserve a social order dominated by straight, white men, which explains why white nationalist groups often join the march.
At Reproaction, we’ll be out today too, standing in defiant opposition to their hateful agenda.
