Reproaction Hosts First Mid-Missouri Self-Managed Abortion Forum

On September 20, Reproaction hosted our very first Self-Managed Abortion Public Forum in Columbia, Missouri. I moderated the panel, and was able to foster an informative discussion with an inquisitive group of attendees. Pamela Merritt, Reproaction’s co-director and co-founder, and Dr. Colleen McNicholas, OB-GYN and the Chief Medical Officer of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri shared their insights on self-managed abortion and abortion access.

Reproaction’s self-managed abortion campaign focuses on self-managed abortion with pills, specifically misoprostol. Misoprostol has proven to be a safe and effective method for those seeking an abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. At Reproaction, we share the World Health Organization’s protocol for self-managed abortion with misoprostol. The World Health Organization has published guidelines online, and Women Help Women is an amazing, confidential online resource for people with questions about self-managed abortion.

With the ever-increasing attacks on abortion access, people need to know how they can safely and effective end unwanted pregnancies. Abortion opponents think that criminalizing abortions will end abortion. People should know that there is another option. Reproaction will continue to share this vital information, so next time we host a public forum we hope you can join us!

You can help us continue to educate folks about self-managed abortion with pills by attending upcoming events, and the best way to accomplish that is to join our mailing list, and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

You can (and should) also support our work through donations. The revolution will be funded!
