Where are the “Pro-Life” Investigations on Gun Violence?

Nine people were killed and nine more were injured yesterday when a shooter took several guns into Umpqua Community College in Oregon and opened fire. Just this year, there have been 39, 530 total firearm incidents and 9, 957 people have been killed. Every victim of gun violence is somebody’s child, and many are parents.
And yet gun violence is not the “pro-life” issue Congress is talking about. Demand your legislators take action on gun violence.
Gun violence is a reproductive justice issue. Quite simply, no one is able to raise children in safe and healthy communities when there is no policy response to school shootings and mass shootings and church shootings, some explicitly targeting communities of color.
In the wake of yesterday’s tragedy, President Obama has rightfully called our nation to task. “It can not be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun,” he said. It shouldn’t be. And yet it is.
