Jefferson City Residents Participate in #DeathByDeliveryMO Screening Event

On February 24, Reproaction hosted our second maternal and infant mortality screening event in Jefferson City, Missouri. In April 2017 we launched our maternal and infant mortality campaign in the state capital with Capital Area Missouri NOW. This time we partnered with them again and had another spectacular screening event and discussion of maternal and infant mortality. Cosponsors included Capitol City Cinema, the Mid-Missouri Black Nurses Association, and Lincoln University’s Women’s Resource Center and School of Nursing. These cosponsors, along with a social action award from Sociologists for Women in Society, helped to make this screening happen.

About 20 people – including college students, health professionals, and community members – showed up to Capitol City Cinema to watch Fusion TV Network’s documentary, The Naked Truth: Death By Delivery, and participate in a question and answer panel. As usual, the exchange between panelists and attendees centered on racial health disparities in maternal and child health. Our panel included three nurses, including a midwife from Nigeria, an OB-GYN specialist and director of the neonatal unit from a local hospital, and a sociology professor who has researched maternal and child health internationally for about 40 years.
