Reproaction’s Maternal and Infant Mortality Campaign Continues in St. Louis
On Thursday, October 12, we had our fourth maternal and infant mortality screening event at Community Birth and Wellness in Ferguson, MO. We kept to the usual format of showing Fusion TV Network’s documentary “Death By Delivery” and following it with a panel of healthcare experts. The panel consisted of Reproaction’s Co-Founder and Co-Director, Pamela Merritt, who spoke as a reproductive justice activist and organizer; Brittany “Tru” Kellman, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Community Birth and Wellness; an assistant professor at Washington University School of Medicine and practices maternal fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University, Dr. Ebony Carter; and Dr. Pamela Xaverius, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Director of Maternal and Child Health Program at St. Louis University. There was a mix of about 30 healthcare advocates and community members in attendance. The discussion was fruitful, and the space proved useful for healthcare advocates and community members to connect and exchange information.
